HAUNTED IN THE HOUSE

DETROIT, Michigan, July 30, 2009...There has always been some speculation among Detroit Opera House guests that the historic 1922 movie palace is haunted. And on Halloween 2009, it certainly will be. Michigan Opera Theatre's Young Professionals volunteers present Haunted in the House on October 31, 2009 from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Detroit Opera House. Proceeds raised from the event will benefit Michigan Opera Theatre's world-class opera and dance programming, as well as ongoing educational outreach. Tickets will go on sale September 1, 2009.
"Launching Haunted in the House is a way to try and re-engage the young people that may attend one of our larger events like BravoBravo!," says MOT Director of Development Mary Parkhill. "We want the next generation of arts supporters to begin to take ownership of the Detroit Opera House, too."
Guests will join ghosts of the old movie theatre's past in the Detroit Opera House's grand lobby areas and second floor as the house is transformed into a spook-tacular palace of fright and intrigue. Outdoor areas and the two floors of the opera house will be open for drinking, mingling, dancing and noshing on Halloween treats. Costumed attire is suggested, and costume contests will be held during the evening to win prizes. More details will be announced in early September.
Tickets for Haunted in the House are $35 general admission and $75 VIP tickets that include access to a VIP lounge with an open bar and hors d'oeuvres for one hour, an opera house Dungeon Tour and valet parking. Guests must be 21 or older, please.
