PILOBOLUS TAKES SHAPE IN
DETROIT OPERA HOUSE DEBUT!

DETROIT, Michigan, October 1, 2009... An innovative synthesis of athletic explorations and imaginative collaboration, Pilobolus will take shape at the Detroit Opera House for the very first time in a two-performance limited engagement, October 31 and November 1, 2009.
The dance company, or "organism" as it has been called in The New York Times, has received rave reviews since its first performance, with critics praising the company's organic and fluid imagery.
Their unique performances have been featured on the Academy Awards hosted by Ellen Degeneres in 2007, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and most recently The Late Show with Conan O'Brien. Pilobolus has wowed audiences the world over for almost 40 years and has also performed works with major dance companies, such as the Joffery Ballet, Ballet Du Rhin in France, and Italy's Verona Ballet.
Pilobolus began in 1971 with the purpose of using creative processes to move in ways not found in traditional dance vocabulary. This 21st century pioneering cultural institution is famous for their world-renowned marriage between dance and biology that make for entertaining and inspiring performances. Their continuous metamorphosis, emphasizing both physicality and illusion, generates awe and amazement in its audiences.
This intense and original approach to movement has also become an area of extreme interest sparking the creation of two other branches of the company, the Pilobolus Institute, the educational branch of the arts organization encouraging different approaches to business and even leadership, and Pilobolus Creative Services, which provides choreographic and movement design for commercial and business. The expansion of Pilobolus has created multiple avenues of outreach allowing for massive progression and recognition in dance history for modern dance.
